Kangwon Land is accelerating its large-scale renovation project, which began in April, to transform the 23-year-old Grand Hotel and Mountain Condo into premium lodging facilities.
As of the 15th, Kangwon Land reported that large scaffolding and safety nets have been installed on the exterior of the Grand Hotel, with demolition work on room windows and exterior materials currently underway across the building's facade.
This project is the largest lodging facility improvement initiative since the company's inception. Kumho E&C is handling the construction, with a total project cost of 198.44 billion KRW.
Opened in March 2003, the Grand Hotel will undergo a comprehensive 24-month renovation, scheduled for completion in March 2028.
To enhance room space and convenience, the number of rooms will be reduced from 477 to 410. The new layout will feature a variety of room types tailored to customer demand, including Standard, Deluxe, Corner Deluxe, Premium Suite, and Family Suite.
Dedicated floors for casino guests will be established, and a lounge exclusively for casino members will be created on the 24th floor, the hotel's top level. This plan aims to increase guest stay duration and satisfaction in conjunction with the second casino venue, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2028.
Improvement work for the 280 units across five buildings of the Mountain Condo is also underway and will continue until October 2027. Buildings A through C will undergo full exterior and interior renovations, while buildings D and E will have their exterior and interior finishing materials replaced.
Kangwon Land is carrying out the construction in phases while maintaining hotel and casino operations. Consequently, a key priority is minimizing inconvenience for guests and ensuring safety by separating construction zones from guest traffic and managing noise and dust.
Through this renovation, Kangwon Land intends to upgrade its aging facilities and strengthen its competitiveness as a comprehensive resort by providing differentiated room services for both family tourists and casino guests.
