Kangwon Land is investing a total of 4.766 billion KRW to attract businesses to coal industry transition regions, revitalize the local economy, and improve the welfare of partner company employees.
On the 30th, Kangwon Land held its 235th Board of Directors meeting at the Grand Hotel and deliberated and approved three agenda items: ▲ Fund contribution to the Foundation for Cooperation between Large, Small, and Medium Enterprises and Agriculture for regional economic revitalization, ▲ Fund contribution for 2026 partner welfare and ESG management support, and ▲ Setting a record date for determining shareholders for the extraordinary general meeting.
The most notable item from this board meeting is the 3.7 billion KRW fund contribution to support the growth and relocation of businesses in coal industry transition regions and the Gangwon region.
Kangwon Land plans to contribute 3.7 billion KRW to the Foundation for Cooperation between Large, Small, and Medium Enterprises and Agriculture, with 3 billion KRW allocated for business relocation support in coal industry transition regions and 700 million KRW for win-win SME support projects.
Notably, the initiative is expanding beyond simple relocation support to a comprehensive approach that supports the entire growth stage of a business.
To diversify industries and create jobs in former mining areas, Kangwon Land promoted the 'Next Unicorn Project' from 2019 to 2025.
Through this project, 24 companies were selected, and 12 of them have successfully completed their relocation to coal industry transition regions.
Following the conclusion of the Next Unicorn Project, Kangwon Land decided to expand the scale and scope of its support to continue attracting businesses and fostering a local industrial ecosystem.
This is interpreted as an effort to attract new businesses and establish a growth foundation for existing ones in coal industry transition regions such as Taebaek, Jeongseon, Yeongwol, and Samcheok, where the development of alternative industries and the securing of quality jobs are urgent following the decline of the coal industry.
Support for cooperation with partner companies is also being expanded.
Kangwon Land has decided to contribute 1.066 billion KRW in 2026 to improve welfare for partner employees and introduce ESG management.
The support will benefit approximately 1,400 employees of partner companies.
Key support details include ▲ 500,000 KRW per person in performance sharing bonuses, ▲ 300,000 KRW per person for comprehensive health checkups, and ▲ 100,000 KRW per person for vacation support in connection with the Korea Tourism Organization.
Additionally, the funds will be used for projects to build and spread ESG management systems for partner companies.
Kangwon Land has been promoting various cooperative projects to improve the treatment and welfare of partner employees. This contribution also focuses on narrowing the welfare gap between the prime contractor and partner companies and increasing job satisfaction.
In particular, this board decision draws attention as it shows that the 'regional cooperation' and 'field-oriented management' emphasized since CEO Kim Do-kyun took office are leading to concrete projects in business support and partner welfare.
In the local community, the key indicators for future performance will be how well Kangwon Land's business attraction support translates into actual local settlement and new job creation, and whether the partner support establishes itself as a win-win model that employees can truly feel.
Meanwhile, the Kangwon Land Board of Directors also approved the setting of a record date for determining shareholders for the extraordinary general meeting on this day.
