The Korea Center on Gambling Problems (Director Shin Mi-kyung) is producing and distributing a 'Customized Gambling Problem Prevention Content Package' to efficiently support youth gambling prevention education in schools.
This package was designed to help schools seamlessly fulfill the mandatory requirement of conducting at least two gambling prevention education sessions per year, as stipulated by the revised 'Gambling Control Commission Act'.
Developed with careful consideration for the developmental characteristics and academic levels of elementary, middle, and high school students, the content consists of 20 diverse lesson plans categorized into basic, participatory, and advanced modules. Notably, the package offers high flexibility, allowing teachers to freely select and combine modules to suit their specific classroom environments.
Teachers can combine 2 to 4 modules for a single 40–50 minute class, and the materials are also expected to be useful as supplementary resources for curriculum-linked lessons or creative experiential activities.
These educational materials are available for request through the Center's website, which is expected to significantly reduce the burden on teachers who previously had to prepare new lesson plans from scratch.
Director Shin Mi-kyung emphasized, "We prioritized practical usability in the field," adding, "We will continue to collect feedback from educators to further improve and refine our content."
Meanwhile, the Korea Center on Gambling Problems is a public institution providing gambling prevention and rehabilitation counseling, currently operating 15 regional centers nationwide. Individuals or families struggling with gambling issues can receive free counseling anytime via phone (1336, toll-free), text (#1336), or the KakaoTalk chatbot.
